The College of Integrative Studies (CIS) at Singapore Management University (SMU) was established in 2022. It plays a pivotal role in helping students traverse the disciplinary areas associated with the other SMU Schools—Accountancy, Business, Economics, Computing, Law, and Social Sciences. The CIS also delivers the University’s Core Curriculum for all undergraduate students. It emphasises the importance of integrating ideas and perspectives across disciplines to derive new solutions in areas related to SMU’s Strategic Priorities.
We are looking to fill two full-time positions of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Sustainability. Sustainability here is broadly defined but there is a preference for scholars who demonstrate interdisciplinary expertise. Candidates could, for example, have a background in humanities, social sciences or STEM. Applications will be considered on the Tenure track, exact level depending on the candidate’s experience.
Expectations of the role include:
- Publishing in top-tier journals and applying for competitive funding awards.
- Contributing to our Undergraduate Core Curriculum under the Communities or Civilisations pillars with Electives (decided in consultation with the Dean/Associate Dean (UG Edu) and the Big Questions Freshman module from their own disciplinary perspective.
- For more senior hires, contributing to our PhD programme in Asian Urbanisms with Electives or, on core modules.
- Advising our College students on the Bachelor of integrative Studies (BIS) programme.
- Providing service to the College and University by serving on committees, participating in events, outreach and admissions activities and, where appropriate, engagement with industry/academic stakeholders.
